Data Intern

position Description

The Youth Justice Network recognizes the crucial role that data plays in supporting core staff functions across the varied locations, including our core services of providing advocacy and case processing and mitigation services, reporting for funder requests for information, staff supervision, and the development of strong, evidence-informed programming.

The Data Support team member will provide direct support to staff in the Efforts to Outcomes Software (ETO) database used by YJN for data and documentation. They will assist in the production of data entry user manuals and data entry tools. In addition to supporting the data entry best practices of staff, the intern will perform administrative tasks to maintain the data integrity and quality assurance of our database. The Data Support team member will attend weekly advocacy staff meetings, learning more about the direct services and supports that our teams provide NYC’s young people in order to provide input on how our data systems can best be leveraged to support these direct services, program evaluation efforts, and a healthy data culture. 

Internship is available for 15-30 hours weekly; candidate should indicate in application their weekly availability for the duration of the internship.

Objectives of this Role
  • Provide support and technical assistance to YJN advocacy teams and directors with using the various database systems, including assisting with quality assurance and troubleshooting.
  • Support the YJN Research & Evaluation Team with maintaining Customer Relationship Management software (ETO)  databases for coordination of services.
  • Attend weekly advocacy meetings and take minutes.
  • Coordinate with direct service teams to identify needs at field level for technical assistance in reporting and tracking data.
  • Produce user manuals for various data processes, including data entry and report utilization in ETO; Microsoft Forms; and SharePoint.
  • Minimum of 10 hours working at YJN borough office; schedule is flexible.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.
  • Proficient with computers and troubleshooting computer issues.
  • Eager to learn about data management systems.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required.
  • Flexible work attitude: the ability to work in a diverse team environment and independently.
  • Ability to effectively deliver both on-site and virtual/remote technical assistance to a diverse audience.
  • Interest in leveraging data in order to serve communities and promote social justice.
  • Comfortable traveling to borough offices in NYC.
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 at time of hire.
